Grilled Cheese Sandwich hearts in a muffin tin (#2)

grilled cheese sandwich hearts, apple with heart cut out
carrot hearts, yogurt with pink sugar sprinkles, red grapes

I also made this on National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day. It's the same ingredients as the other lunch that I posted today but packed in a slightly different way using a regular muffin tin.

Here are some items used to make this lunch:

Grilled Cheese Sandwich Hearts - in a Muffin Tin Meal

heart shaped grilled cheese sandwiches, apple heart cutouts,
carrot heart cutouts, yogurt with pink sprinkles, red grapes

This is another lunch that I made on National Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day.  I haven't made a muffin tin meal in ages! Since we are at home for break I decided to revisit that fun way of serving lunch, plus it's the theme for Bento Blog Network this week - vote for me  ;) ;). I discovered that cutting a grilled cheese sandwich is pretty tricky. For this I used my flower shaped metal cutter to cut out the sandwich before grilling. Then I made 3 knife cuts to turn the flower into hearts. If you let the sandwich cool a bit it's much neater and cheese doesn't ooze out everywhere.

Here are some things that I used for this lunch:

Groovy 60's Muffin Tin Meal

This week's theme on Muffin Tin Meal is a fun one! Groovy 60's. I made this groovy lunch for Heidi.

Cheese sandwich for Peace, Tie dye hard boiled egg, LOVE peanut butter sandwiches
Groovy Grapes, Flower Power Yogurt, Heart Carrots and Tomatoes

Amy, Rose & Heidi went out on a modelling call this morning and I made them some little snack bentos to take. They went out for ice cream after so they weren't terribly hungry at lunch time. I made one muffin tin meal for Heidi because she was still hungry, plus several boiled eggs because they are a favourite and they would all want one as soon as they saw them. Most of this lunch was eaten plus all of the boiled eggs. Here are the others.

I did these the lazy way. Click here for a full tutorial. After I unwrapped the first egg I just used the same dye filled Viva paper towel to wrap the others. You can tell the first two have more of the individual colours showing and then the last two are all blendy. I think this is a fun way to dye Easter eggs - I must remember it next year!

We are not all that experienced in dyeing eggs. When making lunch, I made these first and as soon as they were dry we ate them. It took only the amount of time to finish making lunch for them to be OK to peel. I *think* if you put dyed eggs in the fridge and then take them out to pack in lunch they would sweat and possibly the dye would run. I am not positive but I would test that out if you wanted to make these for a packed lunch.

Edited to add: there have been a few questions about the egg -- I dyed the shell only, once peeled the boiled egg inside was still white.

Banana Splits for Dinner!

Yup. You read that right. #69 on our family fun list is to eat only ice cream for dinner. Well we did it last week! We all had Banana Splits for dinner. I set up a 6 cup muffin tin with several toppings, mini chocolate hips, cherries, rainbow sprinkles, chopped nuts, gummy bears and Butterfinger crunch bits. I gave the girls each a split banana with ice cream on it (no banana for Amy - she doesn't like them). Then I let each of them put on their own toppings. I added whipped cream, chocolate syrup, strawberry syrup or Dulce de Leche upon request. This was the most fun we have had at dinner in a long time!

I am sharing this special dinner in tribute to Ryan Roberts who passed away on July 8th. You can read more about Ryan's Banana Split Party here or sign up on the Facebook page here.

Easter Muffin Tin Meal

We haven't had a MTM in ages! Poor Rosie has been feeling sick. I made her a MTM of some of her favourites to encourage her to eat a few bites. Amy was out, but Heidi had a MTM too. I made them both the same :)

honeydew melon & cantaloupe, diced peaches,
carrot & celery sticks with ranch
mac & cheese, carrot shaped turkey sandwich,
vanilla yogurt with Easter sprinkles

Rosie wasn't really interested :( She decided to take an early nap instead. My poor girl.  I hope she feels better soon - otherwise it's back to the Dr on Monday. Heidi, on the other hand, ate almost everything!

O Christmas tree!

Wow. It's been a crazy-busy holiday month. So many school activites, holiday events and organising and I hardly posted any of the girls' lunches! I will try and post a new lunch each day from the past few weeks to catch up. School is on holiday and I won't be making any new packed lunches until the new year but I have several to share from the end of school.

Saw this and decided it was too easy to not copy it!

Heidi's lunch
Cheese sandwich Christmas tree with mini m&m ornaments,
grapes & strawberries

She was out of school a few days before her sisters, so this was an at home lunch only for her :) She ate the fruit first - not even the candies. <3 her.

Local find!

I have been hoping that the grocery store would have something fun and seasonal soon. Lindo's didn't disappoint. I found these large Wilton cookie cutters. These are a good size for sandwiches. I haven't used them yet but I measured them on the bread and they are going to be great. The Santa works best on an angle and the snowflake just fits. They had some other smaller ones too but I must confess - I already bought them last year!

I also found these cupcake liners & picks. Good used inside out for lunches, MTMs and then of course right side out and as intended for some fun cupcakes!

I can't wait to use these. Hopefully soon - but I think it's a tad early for Christmas lunches.

Trick or Treat MTM

Muffin Tin Meals for dinner before we go Trick or Treating. Easy, Fast, Fun!

Amy
pineapple, ham, diced peaches
mac & cheese, yogurt with sprinkles.

Rose & Heidi had the same

Peeps ghost, ham, diced peaches, mac & cheese, yogurt with sprinkles.

I intended to make them all exactly the same as it's faster but Amy didn't want a peeps ghost, a simple enough change.

As everyone is on break from school this week we have been doing as many fun Halloween activites that I can muster the energy for. Today's lunch was a pretty simple MTM as the kids were hungry and could scarcely wait.
To make it easy -- all three had the same!

MTM - Rose's Favourites

Rose has been sick for a week. Finally she has her appetite back and seems better. So I made her a Muffin Tin Lunch of her favourite things.

vanilla cupcake, orange pepper strips, bananas
chicken fried rice (takeout leftovers from dinner), pineapple chunks.

I expected her to eat the cupcake first as she was begging for it all morning. Nope! She ate the pineapple, peppers & fried rice first. She licked a little icing off the cupcake and that was all. Shocked :o
Life is still crazy, in the mornings especially. It's hot lunches tomorrow and I will only have to send snacks -- I *might* be able to snap a picture before school. KMFX for a good start tomorrow.

Stars - MTM

Heidi's MTM today is a star theme.
granola bites, star shaped boiled egg, raisins
cottage cheese with star sprinkles, star shaped apples,
star shaped mini PB sandwiches

She ate almost everything except not much of the cottage cheese but it's still new and I'll keep trying. It's entirely possible that she ate the sprinkles off the top and the little bit of cottage cheese that got in the way - lol.

Even though it's Tuesday - I am sharing this on Muffin Tin Mom today. To check out other fun Muffin Tin Lunches from this week  go to:

MTM - Hearts

Heidi has a heart themed MTM today. I think I was still in the mood for hearts after making Rose's heart themed lunch this morning so I am spreading the love :)

cheddar hearts (scraps behind) & sesame crackers, banana pieces
strawberry hearts, cucumber hearts
vanilla yogurt with heart sprinkles
avocado pieces

She just must not be too hungry today as it was a bit of a hit and miss. She went straight for the avocado and then spit it out!!! She nibbled one of the cucumbers. wanted extra strawberries & yogurt and ate few bites of her cheese & crackers and a few pieces of banana which is actually her favourite thing in her lunch today.

Duckies planetbox & odds and ends MTM

Amy wanted a Mommy duck and some baby ducks for lunch. Ok. No problem. So here we have the Duckies lunch :) I could only fit one baby duck sandwich but there are other baby ducks around. Amy doesn't usually like cheese so I put a little bit of cheese in the hope that she would try it.  Nope. All of the cheese came home. Ah well, I'll still try it again. She was so excited about the ducks it was worth a try.

Ritz crackers with ham & cheese ducks, frozen frubes yogurt
mandarin oranges, strawberries, fruit leather ducks,
Peanut butter Mom & baby duck sandwich

I was able to cut both the Mom and baby duck out of the same sandwich so there was very little waste ( usually H & I eat the scraps so it's not really wasted). I find the frubes yogurts fit really well into that long spot and since it's getting warmer I prefer to freeze the yogurt instead of just relying on an ice pack. If I freeze a yo kids it just doesn't fit very well - so no more yo kids for awhile.

Bento Lunch

Also on Friday I made Heidi a MTM. I was feeling a bit unwell and didn't have any plan, so I made her an odds and ends MTM again. She likes the variety, I like that it's really quick with minimal effort. Win - Win.

Ritz crackers, cheddar flowers (and scraps behind), kiwi slices
vanilla yogurt, carrot sticks & tomatoes, mandarin oranges & raspberries

She didn't really like the kiwi, but she hasn't had it that often. The raspberries were on their last day but still tasty - she ate them first! And as predicted she dipped her carrots in the yogurt. Surprisingly she didn't eat much of the crackers as it was the one thing she was asking for when I was putting it together. I guess the rest just looked yummier when she saw it all assembled :)

I see I have been getting some followers lately - *waves* thanks for reading!
