Back to School - Day 1.

The first week of back to school went well! Girls did a great job of getting ready in the morning. Although the wee one was a little slower than the rest ;)

This is Emily's lunch from the first day of school. It's packed in her Yumbox lunchbox.

Honeydew & Cantaloupe, Cucumbers & Carrots
Graham Crackers, Cheese Stick & Pistachios and a few blueberries

She ate almost everything - no surprise there since she picked her lunch! She picked her "flair" too.
Everyone else had school hot lunch on the first day -- I think it was pizza.

Hope your back to school time is going well. I have actually been away for work all week so Dad has been on lunch duty. He told me he has made salads, wraps and sandwiches.

It's hard to find time to blog but I do have quite a few pictures from the first week so I'll do my best to share them all. My girls do like looking back at their lunches and I do too!

Here they are - M1, P5, P4, P2!

Here are some items that I used when making this lunch. The yumboxes come in different configurations and colours as shown below. They can also be found at Lindo's Devonshire and People's.

Cheese & Crackers lunch

This was a lunch for Rose from a couple of weeks ago. I am taking a children's natural nutrition course right now - this one breaks the rules as the cheese wedge & graham crackers were not the best choices- but I was using up some items that we still had on hand. We're a work in progress!

Rose has - apple slices, green grapes, mini bell peppers and snap peas, Laughing Cow cream cheese spread & cheddar cubes, graham crackers & pumpkin seeds.

I love the Yumbox for this kind of snack style lunch. Little bites of many items. Rose loves her lunch to have this kind of variety.

Simple lunch in our new Yumbox Panino

We had two very scary storms here in Bermuda. First Tropical Storm Fay and then a week later Hurricane Gonzalo. I am happy to report that we are all fine and have power restored at our home.

Here is a today's lunch for Heidi packed in one of our new Yumbox Panino containers.

Ham sandwich with cheddar cheese topper, apple slices, orange slices & almonds.

I'm sure that it will come home empty - hers always does!

A new milestone - all girls at the same school! (and some vegetarian lunches too!)

Yesterday was Emily's first day at school! She handled it like a champ. No tears and enjoyed her day at big school. She will be at home by lunchtime each day this year so I won't be packing her a lunch to take.

Here are all of my girls ready for school yesterday. They were greeted by a bunch of smiling teachers who have known most of them since they were babies, happy to have all of them at school together at last! It was quite a moment for me to have them all climb out of the car and head off to their classrooms. Of course, I spent the morning thinking of them, particularly Emily on her first day, hoping that it was a good one! And it was.

Poor Rosie did not have a good day, I had to pick her up after lunch as she was not feeling well. Fever & a sore throat  - we're off to the Dr today. Yikes!

The girls wanted a little yogurt in their lunches today so I used our leakprook Yumbox lunchboxes.

This was Rose's lunch - she didn't eat much on account of not being well.
yogurt, cheese sticks, sprinkles in the little cup for her yogurt, no bake energy bites, pepitas, grapes & strawberries, grape tomatoes, yellow bell pepper.

Heidi's is similar

Just realised that I put her eye picks in with the eyelashes facing the wrong way - oops!

Amy's lunch is packed in our brand new Yumbox Panino. Sadly, this photo is pretty terrible. I was a bit nervous for Emily's first day and trying to get out the door early enough in case she had a meltdown at dropoff. My hand must have been shaking!

Annie's cookies, strawberry fruit leather, energy bites, almonds, bell pepper & cucumbers, clementine, grapes

Here are some items that I used when making this lunch.

Packing yogurt in the Yumbox - no leaking!

This was one of Heidi's lunches from last week. She has wanted to have yogurt in her lunch quite a bit lately. The Yumbox is perfect for that! Each compartment seals when the lid is closed so there is no leaking between the compartments and her yogurt stays put until lunchtime.

yogurt with sprinkles, red grapes, strawberries & blueberries, cherry, cheese, strawberry jam sandwich bites.

Here are a couple of items that I used when making this lunch.

Look, Lunch!

We have only a few days left of the school year for the 3 eldest girls and Emily has already finished up play group for the year. Woo hoo!

Here is Rose's lunch from yesterday. She's been a lunch time vegetarian these days. Now that I think about it, she is vegetarian for most breakfasts too, but she does prefer a few non-veg dinners.

strawberries & blueberries, red grapes, mini yellow peppers, no bake energy bites, goldfish, carrots, cucumber & tomatoes.

These little energy bites are a family favourite and I seem to be constantly making them these days.
I often tweak it a bit if I run out of something, I might add a  Linwoods seed mix instead of chia, sometimes wheat germ, sometimes ground flaxseed, half the chips as mini chips + a few currants, Enjoy life dairy free chips and almond or soy butter to make them peanut and dairy free and so on. This time they are made exactly as the recipe suggests.

I swear that I have been making lunches for my girls during this loooong blogging break! Sometimes I'm so busy living life and getting the daily tasks accomplished there just isn't any time left to blog about it! I'm sure my fellow bloggers out there know how easily this can happen if you don't dedicate blogging time. My real problem seems to be in the morning, no time to snap a photo before the lunches go off to school!

Vegetarian Yumbox

Rose is on a bit of a vegetarian kick lately. We could all use a few meatless meals so everyone had similar vegetarian lunches packed in their new Yumboxes. This is Amy's very easy to pack vegetarian school lunch.

Amy has diced peaches, sliced apples with a yummy greek yogurt & peanut butter dip (recipe from BentOnBetterLunches), sliced veggies - radish, carrots & cucumber. There are 2 no bake energy bites (recipe from MOMables) and a boiled egg.

Most foods in this lunch were considered her favourites so I thought I could sneak in a few new tastes like the dip and the radishes. Amy didn't like either, but her sisters sure did! Rose & Heidi had extremely similar lunches. Rose had pineapple instead of peaches and Heidi did not have radishes or cucumbers.
They ate everything from their lunch save a few bites.

This lunch was extremely fast to pack! The boiled eggs were made the night before using this fool proof method and I had also made the energy bites ahead of time. Packing all 3 lunches in the morning took less than 10 minutes! Now that is FAST.

Monkey themed lunches for Yumboxes

I packed two very similar lunches for Rose & Heidi last week.

Heidi has Trix yogurt with rainbow sprinkles, strawberries & green grapes, carrots & yellow peppers, raspberries & blueberries, raisins & 2 monkey sandwiches (ham).

Rose's lunch is almost identical. She has pumpkin seeds instead of raisins and Rose's monkey sandwiches are chocolate & peanut butter spread.

We have been loving our new Yumboxes. There is only one slight drawback. We don't have a dishwasher and the inner plastic is a bit of a pain to dry! The underside of the clear insert has a channel all around and that is very tricky to dry.

Vegetarian Yumbox

I packed a very simple vegetarian lunch for Rose in her new Yumbox last week.

Rose has cherry yogurt & plain greek yogurt swirled together and topped with sprinkles, diced peaches, cheddar and colby jack cheese cubes, mini crackers, a couple of fruit snacks and her favourite veggies - cucumber and yellow peppers.

When it came home empty I asked her about eating everything worried that she was still hungry. Nope! Her teacher had birthday cupcakes but they had to eat all of her lunch first. So the size is actually quite perfect.

New Lunchboxes - Yumbox!

I bought the girls some new lunchboxes. Yumbox lunchboxes.
They are smaller than our regularly used planetboxes, each compartment seals completely when closed so you can pack yogurt, applesauce, dip in any of the comparments and it won't leak into another one.
So far they have a thumbs up!
Heidi's lunch has cherry yogurt with sprinkles, diced peaches, rolled up low sodium turkey, mini crackers, apple slices, raisins.

She loved her new lunchbox.
