Easy Vegetarian Preschool Lunch

I packed this easy preschool lunch for Heidi about two weeks ago.

Heidi has 2 strawberry jam and 2 cheddar cheese bunny shaped sandwiches, carrot sticks and ranch dip, a strawberry yogurt and a medley of berries - strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. She ate almost everything leaving a berry or two and a bite of carrot. I think this was one of her favourite lunches!

The planetbox shuttle is deeper than the rover so that little yogurt fits in there quite nicely. It's a bit of a tight fit in the rover and I am always worried that it would bust open!

Here are some items that I used when making this lunch.

Pretty Little Salad

Sweet little Rose asked for salad only for her lunch on Friday. I packed her half a sandwich also.

Flower stamped cheese sandwiches made with the ultra thin Sargento cheddar slices. This is the equivalent of half a sandwich and the ultra thin cheese is contributing minimal protein so I added some cheese sticks/cubes that I cut from a larger block of Irish cheddar. Rose also has yellow bell pepper strips and watermelon pieces. The salad that she requested is made up of green leafy lettuce, grape tomatoes, cucumber and carrot shapes.

She ate almost everything leaving a few pieces of lettuce and carrots that the guinea pigs were happy to receive! The picture is fuzzy because of my broken camera :( boo. I love all of the paper backgrounds that other lunch bloggers use when taking photos. I mostly have a bunch of Christmas colour scrapbook paper so I have been using something new for the past few days. Our Funkins napkins! They have reversible patterns. The girls love taking them to school in their lunch bags and I love the backgrounds in my photos.

Vegetarian, No sandwich lunches!

Lately, I have been drooling over the lunches on Organized Bites. Everything looks so wonderful and I would love for my girls to eat like that! The lunches I packed today are sort of a nod to Scout's lunches as they were really the general idea that inspired me.

Rose's lunch. I did not focus on a theme today, more the actual foods.
boiled egg, strawberries, grapes & cantaloupe, hazelnut biscotti, salad with baby curly leaf lettuce, broccoli, cucumber, carrots, orange pepper, and alfalfa sprouts and the little star is a vitamin.

Rose ASKED for salad today. yay! She just said "no radishes, please". So she has 3 new items today - hazelnut biscotti, raw broccoli and alfalfa sprouts. She prefers cooked broccoli so I'm just giving raw broccoli a little lunch test. I cut the pieces very tiny so they can be a little nibble for each bite.

Amy's Lunch - she's my most picky eater.
boiled egg, pineapple, grapes, strawberries, cantaloupe, hazelnut biscotti, butter lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, a single baby button mushroom and a tiny bunch of alfalfa sprouts.

The number of raw vegetables that Amy likes is very limited. Cooked is a different story and she eats lots at dinner, but cooked and then cold in a lunch she doesn't like either (most of the time). The mushrooms and alfalfa sprouts are new. Also, I am not sure that she will eat the lettuce but I sure hope that she tries it! It's a very nice baby butter lettuce from Wadson's farms. She also does not like any kind of salad dressing at all so there's no sending some dressing as a dip for encouragement. She doesn't like any of the store bought varieties and none of the homemade ones that I have made. I have been trying to give her salad type vegetables for ages in the hopes that I could build up to an actual salad. Still workin' on it!

You may have noticed that my pictures are, quite frankly,  horrible lately. My camera dropped and is broken yet again! The inside makes a funny noise when I try to take a photo. These are actually touched up versions to adjust brightness, contrast etc so you can imagine what the originals look like! I am going to buy a new camera soon, going for a little inexpensive point and shoot this time since I can't seem to be responsible enough to have an expensive one :(

Here are some items that I used when making this lunch.

Heart sandwich in a new lunch container!

Great Local Find! I spotted this Fuel lunch container at Master's Ltd for around $5. In it I packed a simple vegetarian lunch for Amy.

carrot sticks, celery and peanut butter,
plums, strawberries and a grape jelly sandwich

This was from last Friday . Amy was feeling unwell last week and was at home for a couple of days, Emily was also ill and appeared to have the Roseola virus.  I spent all morning at the school book swap on Friday and I made this little bento quickly in the morning so that Amy could have something easy to eat when she was hungry. My Mom stayed at home with the sick girls while I was out - Thanks Mom! Unfortunately, by Friday afternoon I was feeling unwell too and to add insult to injury my internet stopped working! The telephone company came today and fixed the DSL line as it was a hardware problem outside. Phew! I need the internet for work so that created some problems but what I really missed was using my favourite ipad apps and watching Netflix while I was unwell and resting in bed. I am spoiled by technology - can you relate?

Back to the new Fuel lunch container. This is what it looks like when it's closed.  It snaps shut and seems like it will stay closed pretty well.

Bento Lunch

Here are some of the items that I used to make this lunch. I have to say that I LOVE the Peach Wedger. It's so easy to cut peaches and plums into perfect little slices without fussing with the pit.
