Cute little bunny sandwiches.

This might just be my favourite mini sandwich cutter. It's sure had a lot of use since the start of the school year. Here's a familiar preschool lunch for Heidi.

Heidi has four bunny shaped ham sandwiches, red & green grapes, honeydew melon, carrot sticks, red pepper strips and ranch dip. She hasn't really been eating any raw veggies except for carrots. She asked me to try some peppers so I put two small pieces in her lunch. She took a nibble but didn't eat them. Still counts as progess in my book! I'm a little tired of sending her carrots all of the time and she is going to get tired of eating them! I'd love to find a new raw veggie that she likes.

Easy Vegetarian Preschool Lunch

I packed this easy preschool lunch for Heidi about two weeks ago.

Heidi has 2 strawberry jam and 2 cheddar cheese bunny shaped sandwiches, carrot sticks and ranch dip, a strawberry yogurt and a medley of berries - strawberries, raspberries and blackberries. She ate almost everything leaving a berry or two and a bite of carrot. I think this was one of her favourite lunches!

The planetbox shuttle is deeper than the rover so that little yogurt fits in there quite nicely. It's a bit of a tight fit in the rover and I am always worried that it would bust open!

Here are some items that I used when making this lunch.

Vegetarian Sandwich & Salad Lunch

I have had some crazy weeks. Busy at work, 2 business trips, I was sick, the kids were sick and so on. I haven't posted a lunch in ages but I have a few photos from the past couple of weeks. This is one that was for Rose.
For Rose I packed, 2 bunny shaped cheese sandwiches, a medley of berries, a string cheese, salad made with Wadson's Farms baby butter lettuce, orange peppers, carrot bunnes, cucumber butterflies and grape tomatoes. I've been packing her a cute little fork in a case each day. I'll try to remember to take a photo!

This was basically all of her favourite things. All but a few bites were eaten!

Happy Easter!!

The last Easter lunches of the season. These were from the last day of school before the term break - Thursday. I am so grateful for the break. We need a little time to slow down as a family. I'm sure we aren't the only ones.

Amy's lunch.
Easter bunny & egg sandwiches, mini chocolate in the plastic egg, boiled egg & honeydew melon

Rose's Lunch - same as Amy except fruit snacks in her plastic egg

Hope that you all had a great Easter!

Bunny Bread for lunch!

Yesterday, I made some very cute bunny shaped rolls. It was my first time making them and a couple came out a little wonky. Not to worry, they still tasted yummy and we had them with our lunch yesterday. I saved a few of the better looking ones for lunches today.

Rose’s lunch - vegetarian today :)

bunny roll with butter, tomatoes & cheddar, carrots sticks and celery with peanut butter, strawberries & honeydew melon

Amy’s lunch is a little different (and not vegetarian!)

Bunny roll with butter, leftover roasted chicken, peanut butter for dipping her carrot sticks, celery with peanut butter, strawberries & honeydew melon

Amy is rascally and said that they looked like mice. We have had that problem before – lol. Here’s my last bunny? or mouse? lunch. I told her the rolls are obviously bunnies – just look at their tails. She said but look at their faces. hee hee. She wasn’t being snarky, we were just having a fun chat about it. Next time, I’ll make longer ears on the bunny rolls too.

I first saw the idea to make bunny shaped rolls last year on Lunches Fit for A Kid. I didn’t follow her recipe, just used my own favourite bread roll recipe and her general technique. Her bunnies even had feet! I wasn’t sure how the rolls would turn out and I believe the key is the ears. Try very hard to make the ears the same size and make sure they are sort of laying back a bit and not too much to the side. Some of mine went a little side ways when they rose/baked. If you look at Astrid’s as a guide you can see that her bunny ears are definitely laying straight back.

Some bunny loves you!

It was a very busy morning yesterday. Heidi has snack duty at school this week so there was a little extra morning work. It's good system really. The students take turns to bring in snack for the whole class and for the half day children they end up with one turn all year. When the half day students go to school in the mornings they don't have to bring anything usually - just themselves. So on this busy Monday morning I made some very simple lunches. This was Amy's lunch but they were all pretty similar.

bunny sandwich, carrot coins and celery with some peanut butter in the mini dipper
grapes, apples & a strawberry

I did put the lid on the mini dipper of peanut butter when I sent it to school. The little cupcake wrapper in there was actually practical not just pretty. It's kind of annoying to wash peanut butter out any of our little dip cups (no dishwasher!); it makes cleanup so much easier if it's in a wrapper :)

This was a super fast lunch to make. To make 3 kids lunches I cut two stalks of celery, one large carrot into coins, one apple into slices and halved a few strawberries. Then it literally took a few seconds to fill the compartments. The sandwiches were easily cut with a cookie cutter and then it was very easy to add the little candy eyes and candy nose. I bought some kitchen tweezers recently that made adding the sprinkles super fast. I think this turned out to be one of my cuter bunny lunches (other bunny lunches here) and it was probably one of the fastest to make!

Here are some items that I used to make this lunch:

Bunny & Carrot Bento

I stumbled across a bento that I had missed posting somehow. This was for Heidi over the mid term break back in April! It was definitely eaten at home - the same day that I made Rosie a rainbow bento and the Hello Kitty bento for Amy.

Heidi's Bunny & Carrot bento
bunny shaped boiled egg, apple stars, plum slices,
2 stacked carrot shaped sandwiches with a cheese topper
cucumbers, carrots sticks and ranch dip in a bunny cup

Heidi's choice -- Bunny sandwich

Heidi so sweetly asked me for a bunny sandwich last Wednesday :)

honeydew melon, bunny crackers, clementine, craisins,
bunny ham and cheese sandwich

These were the most delicious clementines that we've had in ages! My mom bought us one of those mini crates and we went through it very quickly. They were so sweet and juicy <3.

bunny sandwiches

Rose's was slightly different - she had an Easter egg sandwich:

Fishy, Bunny, Panda

Fishy Lunch for Heidi
diced peaches, fish shaped boiled egg, yogurt covered raisins,
string cheese, honeydew melon, grapes,
stacked cheese fish sandwiches on very thin bread

Everyone else was getting 2 eyes on their sandwiches today, so Heidi wanted 2 eyes too. So -- it's a four eyed butterfly fish!! haha.

Bunny Lunch for Amy
diced peaches, bunny boiled egg, yogurt covered raisins, granola bar
honeydew melon, grapes, ham bunny sandwich
Amy wanted her bunny egg to have 2 different coloured eyes :)

Pandas for Rose
diced peaches, boiled egg, granola bars, yogurt covered raisins
honeydew melons, grapes, ham & cheese panda bear sandwich

When I send unwrapped chewy, store bought granola bars they seem to break up a bit in their lunch boxes. I am trying out leaving them in the wrapper and so far it seems better. They just bring the wrapper home with them.

Some bunny loves you...

A cute bunny lunch for Amy

bunny shaped boiled egg, strawberries, guava, cantaloupe & grapes
nutter butter & mini nilla wafers, ham bunny shaped sandwich.

Apparently I did not glue (with PB) the bunny's eyes down well enough and they fell off and melted!! oops. She ate all the rest of her lunch though. The guava was from my Mother in Law's tree. We only had a few - it was her first time eating them this past week and all the girls LOVED them. I used Food Writers on the boiled egg. It was a little bit tricky as the markers aren't quite fine enough for the little details.

hodge podge lunch.

A little of this, a little of that. I thought I had plenty of time in the morning to make lunch. Somehow the morning slipped away and these ended up a bit shy on the finishing touches. Never mind, The girls were happy as they each chose the different parts of their lunch so really it was EXACTLY what they wanted ;)

Rose
Bunny shaped boiled egg, ritz pretzel minis, grapes, vitamins
celery & carrot sticks, grape tomatoes with French dressing dip

Heidi's lunch
car shaped boiled egg, ritz crackers, string cheese
grapes, blackberries, vitamins & a ham car sandwich

Amy's lunch
fish shaped boiled egg, ritz crackers, celery & carrot sticks
grapes, vitamins, shark/fish sandwiches

Snacks!

Hot lunches have started for everyone now - so every Friday all 3 girls will have a hot lunch at school. Amy & Rose will still bring a snack to go with it -  Heidi doesn't need to bring anything. It's a treat for the girls and a welcome semi-break for Mom as I imagine the mornings are about to get busier since our family has grown.

Here are this week's snacks ( the same!)

Amy

diced apples, boiled egg, goldfish, grapes

Rose
grapes, boiled egg, goldfish, diced apples

Bunnies - last lunch for camp!

The last packed lunch for camp. I don't expect to have too many packed lunches to post until school starts in September. If we pack any lunches for outings I'll be sure to post about those- and of course we'll have some MTM in the meantime!

Cantaloupe, string cheese, pineapple
m&ms, ham bunny sandwich

Not too fancy - but she ate almost everything. Camp sure makes kids hungry though!
Hope you are all enjoying your summer vacation too! We have a long weekend here - 4 days off - woo hoo!

Bunny Lunch

Well - I woke up late! Everyone else was up in the house - even Daddy. I didn't get up until 7:51 - ack! I think he was letting me sleep because I have been so sick. R was also sick last night and didn't go to school today. So really I only had to make one lunch this morning. Daddy was helpful: breakfast, clothes, supervising teeth brushing etc. So it wasn't too crazy from being late but it wasn't a smooth morning exactly.

Amy was desperate to have the new bunny picks - I guess she isn't tired of bunny lunches just yet. So here's what I came up with at lightning speed!
blueberry yogurt with sprinkles, grapes, string cheese (bunny spoon for the yogurt)
mandarin oranges, honeydew melon, heart sugar decoration
PB bunny sandwich with a mini bunny marshmallow friend

Now that I've had a minute to step back and look at the photo - I can see his eyes are a little too high and he has a stunned expression - LOL. Oh well - his face has character :)
Amy loved it as she saw it before she left for school - she was hovering around the counter while I was making it again. I also made a small afterschool snack as she is going to the park with her friend afterschool. Snack wasn't that creative so I didn't take a photo. In fact, most exciting part was the hello kitty container!

Is it a bunny? or a mouse? LOL

Well I was going for bunnies - but my sweet children informed me that it looked nothing like a bunny but more like a mouse! So I guess we have little mice lunches today. A & R had almost exactly the same just slightly changed due to their personal tastes. Terrible pictures today but we were almost late for school!!

A's Lunch

Raisins, bunny shaped egg, wheat thins, 2 Flinstone's vitamins
canteloupe, honeydew, 1/2 strawberry, bunny mouse sandwich

R's lunch
Carrot sticks, grape tomatoes, boiled egg, wheat thins, marshmallow bunny & chick
Flinstone vitamin, honeydew melon, 1/2 strawberry, bunny  mouse sandwich.

Rose ate everything! Amy left a few bites. A success in my books.

Muffin Tin Monday!

Here's our Muffin Tin Monday lunch from yesterday. It went along with the themes for the month.
Everyone had the same - well A didn't have any dip since she prefers her carrots plain. All the same is much easier on Mom -  I like those days - when they all agree!

lime jello jigglers - mini shapes, carrot sticks with ranch, red grapes, 1/2 a trix yogurt with sprinkles, bunny shaped ham sandwich, sliced apples.

Everything was eaten except the jello - a few bites left as they decided they don't really like lime jello all that much. I had bought a box with good St Patrick's Day intentions but never managed a special lunch that day. I like it - so needless to day it's all gone now!

Check out Muffin Tin Mom if you want to see other Muffin Tin Monday submissions.
