Back to Blogging with a couple of older lunches.

Well I haven't blogged a lunch in years!

Life with 4 kids got a bit crazy in the mornings there. Now that my youngest is almost 6 and will be entering P2 I believe our mornings will be a little less crazy. I didn't totally quit with the lunches. I just did not have many chances to take a photo! I've been through several cameras in the past few years, but will plan to use my phone for photos this time.

Here are a couple of lunches that I made back in May.

Emily has a strawberry jam sandwich with a cheese stick
strawberries & apples

Heidi has blackberries, strawberries, apples & grapes,
carrot coins and a ham & mustard sandwich

Both are packed up in Easylunchboxes with Funkins reusable napkins.

Our back to school count down is nearly done! School starts for us on September 6th.
Hope your back to school season is going well. I look forward to blogging again.

Amanda.

First Day (for 3 of my girls!)

Today is back to school for 3 of my 4 girls. Emily won't start until tomorrow.
Here are Rose - P2, Heidi - P1, & Amy - P4 at school this morning.

First day of school lunches all have a flower theme.

Rose's lunch
grapes, strawberries, apples, cheese, almonds, carrot sticks, grape tomatoes & a cheese flower sandwich

Don't you love that little grapes flower? I got the flower ideas from BentOnBetterLunches.

Heidi's Lunch
almost the same as Rose - grapes, strawberries, carrots sticks with ranch dip, apple slices, cheese and a PB&J sandwich

Amy's lunch is packed in the Planetbox Shuttle. It's one of her favourite containers.
2 flower shaped ham sandwiches, grapes, strawberries, carrot sticks & cucumber rounds.

I always get a little bit nervous on their first day of anything - school, camp,  a new activity. They all were happy to get back and see all of their friends and go to their new classrooms. Meanwhile, I have a few butterflies. I hope they are all having a fabulous first day back at school. I can't wait to hear about it at pickup.

Here are some items that I used when making this lunch.

Flower Power

Here are another couple of lunches from a few weeks ago.  Boy has it been a busy week this week and it's only Wednesday! Do you ever just feel rushed off of your feet? That's how I feel these days. Can't wait until Mid-Term break - it's just around the corner. I don't think I will send the girls to any camps. We'll likely chill at home, have fun with some crafts and not have to get up early!

Amy's Planetbox lunchbox, has carrot sticks and mozzarella cheese sticks, mandarin oranges and purple grapes, cantaloupe and strawberries and a flower shaped ham sandwich.

Rose has pretty much the same! I like when that happens. In the morning while the girls are getting ready and I am packing lunch they are often underfoot. I always like to give them some choice about what goes in their lunch. Usually they just speak up and say that they don't want this and they want something else instead. Rose chose a turkey sandwich, no cheese sticks, extra carrots and a tomato.

These lunches were super fast to make - so I'm sharing on:

Hello Butterflies!

A pretty little butterfly themed lunch for Heidi. This was packed a week or so ago. I still have several lunches to post but am almost caught up.

Heidi has two strawberry jam filled, butterfly shaped sandwiches that I made using my new cookie cutter. Purple grapes, strawberries, cantaloupe and a babybel cheese. She LOVED this lunch, she said  "Hello Butterflies!" She left a few bites of the babybel cheese and a couple of pieces of fruit so I guess it tasted good too ;)

Vegetarian, No sandwich lunches!

Lately, I have been drooling over the lunches on Organized Bites. Everything looks so wonderful and I would love for my girls to eat like that! The lunches I packed today are sort of a nod to Scout's lunches as they were really the general idea that inspired me.

Rose's lunch. I did not focus on a theme today, more the actual foods.
boiled egg, strawberries, grapes & cantaloupe, hazelnut biscotti, salad with baby curly leaf lettuce, broccoli, cucumber, carrots, orange pepper, and alfalfa sprouts and the little star is a vitamin.

Rose ASKED for salad today. yay! She just said "no radishes, please". So she has 3 new items today - hazelnut biscotti, raw broccoli and alfalfa sprouts. She prefers cooked broccoli so I'm just giving raw broccoli a little lunch test. I cut the pieces very tiny so they can be a little nibble for each bite.

Amy's Lunch - she's my most picky eater.
boiled egg, pineapple, grapes, strawberries, cantaloupe, hazelnut biscotti, butter lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, a single baby button mushroom and a tiny bunch of alfalfa sprouts.

The number of raw vegetables that Amy likes is very limited. Cooked is a different story and she eats lots at dinner, but cooked and then cold in a lunch she doesn't like either (most of the time). The mushrooms and alfalfa sprouts are new. Also, I am not sure that she will eat the lettuce but I sure hope that she tries it! It's a very nice baby butter lettuce from Wadson's farms. She also does not like any kind of salad dressing at all so there's no sending some dressing as a dip for encouragement. She doesn't like any of the store bought varieties and none of the homemade ones that I have made. I have been trying to give her salad type vegetables for ages in the hopes that I could build up to an actual salad. Still workin' on it!

You may have noticed that my pictures are, quite frankly,  horrible lately. My camera dropped and is broken yet again! The inside makes a funny noise when I try to take a photo. These are actually touched up versions to adjust brightness, contrast etc so you can imagine what the originals look like! I am going to buy a new camera soon, going for a little inexpensive point and shoot this time since I can't seem to be responsible enough to have an expensive one :(

Here are some items that I used when making this lunch.

First Day of School (#1)

Today is the first day of school for two of my girls. There is a staggered entry into school so Heidi will not go back until Thursday. Today, Amy started Primary 3 (like US Grade 2) & Rose started Primary 1 (like US Kindergarten). Heidi will be a Full Day in the Children's House at school which is like US Pre-K. New this year - Emily is starting a playgroup a few mornings a week. She starts next week.

Here they are all ready for school. Rose has gym today so she starts in her gym uniform and Amy starts in their regular uniform.

Lunch is packed in their Planetbox Rover lunchboxes today.

Rose's lunch; she's trying a little salad in her lunch for the first time!

grapes, sliced pineapple, salad with butter lettuce, radishes, cucumber & carrots, carrot sticks, orange pepper, celery, Rainbow Light kids one vitamin, turkey sandwich with cheddar topper.

Amy was a little less adventurous in her lunch choices today
grapes & pineapple, carrots sticks, cucumber & celery sticks, honey grahams and a turkey sandwich (she specifically wanted this puppy and dog house)

I am going to make an effort to pack fewer sandwiches this school year, but I wanted to start the first day off with something familiar, I'll start to try new things slowly. Next week, I am away for work so Daddy will be packing all of the lunches. I hope he takes a photo!

Rose was so happy to see her lunch she wanted me to take a photo of her with her lunch!

Here are some items that I used when making this lunch.

Fancy Flower Sandwich

A simple, healthy lunch packed for Rose.
grape tomatoes, celery & carrot sticks
ranch flavoured rice crisps,
clementine, pineapple, almonds
ham sandwich with cheese flower topper

The cheese topper really was fast to make. I used a cute little set that I have had for ages. You can make lots of fun layered designs with it.

Simple Lunch for a day out

Amy had the chance to participate in a voice workshop with Voces8 and then give a free performance on the steps of City Hall. It was at 12:15 so we had to quickly rush over after picking up Heidi from school. You know how Heidi can't wait 2 minutes to eat her lunch after school so I packed her this little lunch to bring with us. I thought she might want to start eating it in the car so I used our lunchbots quad container as it's size is just perfect for her little hands and lap.

carrot sticks, pineapple, grapes, cheese sandwiches with cheese flower topper

I did pack a little cup of dip for her carrots after I took the picture (I forgot at first!)

Here's a little clip of their performance. Amy is in the very middle group (white shirts and khaki bottoms), in the second row. It was a bit windy and my video skills could use some work!

Busy Mama, easy packed lunches

Life is BUSY these days. Work is busy (that's good!), family life is hectic and my favourite holiday is just around the corner. I have been spending all of my :free computer time doing everything but blogging! I have just a few photos of lunches from the past few weeks (remember my camera lens broke and I've been borrowing one here and there). Well just last night I got my new lens - yay! I'll be back to regular photos. So first up are two lunches for Amy and Heidi from a week or so ago. I have no idea what Rose ate that day but I promise I sent her lunch too :)

Amy's
goldfish, strawberry fruit leather  ( Stretch Island Fruit co - it doesn't look that yummy in the photo but it's delicious!)
grapes and strawberry and a sandwich cut out with a lunch punch

Heidi's
Pretty much exactly the same --except I packed hers in her favourite EasyLunchbox. I think she likes the EasyLunchbox so much because the top is not attached like the planetbox and it's much lighter. She's only 3 and wants to eat immediately when we get home. Sometimes we bring her lunch and go on an errand so I think for lunch on the go it's much easier for her to manage.

Flowers for Rose

I took a short break from Halloween lunches and gave Rosie a pretty flower lunch. She's been out of sorts lately and I thought something pretty in her lunch would be cheery.

raspberry and black berry flower, grapes, strawberries and cantaloupe
carrot sticks & ranch dip, ham sandwich flower with a flower cupcake ring center

At first when she saw me making her lunch, she said hey where's my Halloween stuff. Then when she saw the finished lunch she was so happy she wanted me to take a picture with her and her lunch :)

She didn't eat everything and left pretty much a small amount of each item. When I look back at it now I see that it was likely too much food. Smaller portions tomorrow!

Here are some of the fun items that I used to make her cheery flower lunch:
